Cool Cardan shaft arrived from Germany!

Cayenne was in the shop last Wednesday, my service guy called me today to let me know the Cardan shaft is in from Germany.

Amazing! NO idea how he did it, but as long as it's not Toby's Cardan shaft, I'm all set

Got my Carden shaft installed last week. Wow - What a difference!

I had put on the Pirelli All Terrains when I got my car, so I always thought the noise was just the tires being loud. Not too big of a deal. However, once the Carden shaft was replaced, the noise has come down dramatically. I also had them balance the tires at the same time, so that now the slight shimmy in the steering wheel between 60mph and 80mph is also gone. Drives like a completely new car.

As for getting a Carden Shaft, when my dealer placed the order, it came up as being back-ordered. What they did then was they cancelled the order, and then reordered it as an emergency item, and they got it the next day. So apparently, it's only on back-order if you have time to wait. If you tell them you need it and that it's urgent, they can in fact get it to the dealer overnight (or so my dealer tells me).

Of course unless that was indeed Toby's Carden shaft that was shipped to Dallas but to the wrong dealer.

Matt, I modified your quote a little bit..... I think you left an emoticon off of your reply!

All I can say is.........

DEAD!!!! You guys are all DEAD!!!

I even asked today while my Cayenne was in to have one of its two batteries replaced!

Karl, I may have to resort to your trick. Did Boardwalk do the deed?

Between Matt hijacking the parts truck BEFORE it even got out of Europe and Lewis hijacking the next truck upon its arrival here in the States, AND THEN, for my good ole buddy Karl to grab that THIRD truck before he could get far enough south to leave a part at Park Place...... I mean SHEESH! NEXT, I'm gonna hear that GARY got HIS part in Austin!

Glad you guys got your fix. Maybe one of you can put in a good word for me with the parts scheduler in Germany??

Porsche did call to see if I wanted the shaft ....

I told them they had the right state but wrong town.

I said "Call Dallas!"

Sounds like they took my advice but got Karl by mistake.

Toby,

Boardwalk did indeed do the replacement. Maybe we should find a shop to switch our Carden shafts, and then I could go back to Boardwalk and ask them why they gave me another bad shaft. That would certainly qualify as an emergency. Boy, would that freak them out.

Jeffrey, I think (but don't know for sure) that you can see the cardan shaft on the pic below.

MattC and GM Austin,
I think it's safe to assume that none of us will be getting holiday cards this year from Toby

Jeffrey,
Consider yourself lucky if you own a Cayenne and never have to learn what a Cardan shaft it

You never know. Isn't that what black orchids are for? BTW, I'm headed by Karl's house later this evening to paper it! It's raining here so THAT should take the wind out of his sails!

Talking

Just back from the dealer, install was about an hour.

Toby Disclaimer: Toby, pls don't read below
Happiness truly is a new Cardan shaft. The drive home was great, as smooth as when new.
End Toby Disclaimer

Went out in the shop and saw the old Cardan shaft. As pointed out in MattC's Xray view, the replaced Cardan shaft is about 4' long; it is the small and long driveshaft shown in the xray view. All balancing weights were on the old shaft (tack welded before painting) and I saw no visible wear on any of the parts.

My dealer located a cardan shaft for my S from Atlanta; I double checked the part number and make sure it is the updated version.

Toby, go bug your dealer. They are slacking off.
