Roofrails and -strips on Lapisblue

Thanks Matt. That does look very nice. I'm still on the fence about the roof rails. I have Crystal Silver. Although I think my car might look better with the rails, I know they would never have an actual function for me. I don't think I am going to mount anything up there or carry luggage. So, it would be purely decorative and that's what bothers me. Give me a couple of months though and I will probably have a set on my car.

It's not so much the looks, I've seen them at the dealer. It's just my functionality hangup. In general, I can't stand gingerbread, non-functional adornments stuck onto a car. The best example of what I am talking about are the non-functional spoilers and hood scoops you find on cars. Porsche has been pretty good about avoiding such things. The roof rails on SUV's are not quite as bad because they could be used, it's just that they seldom are used. So, they are more of decorative than anything else.
Forgetting functionality then, I do like the longitudinal rails better. They add visual height to the Cayenne and reinforce the horizontal side trim. It does have a more masculine demeanor with the new rails. I will probably get some.

Matt,
Your Cayenne looks great. I really like the touch the roof rails and trim strips add.
I have them on my S as well and overall I am very pleased with the appearance. I'm still debating on the rocker panel trim strips, but I think that would be the last adornment I would add. Now that my Sport Technos are on, I'm pretty well set. (HAH! THAT will be the day!)

Thanks Guys.
I have to admit that it is highly likely that they will never be used. But they look so good, I couldn't resist.
Toby, what are rocker panel trim strips (maybe the Tequipment rocker guards)?
I've got the stainless steel skidplate on my debating-list.

You are correct. These rocker panel strips are fitted to the lower rocker panel and are stainless steel. The alternative is the running boards, for which I do not care.
The skid plate adds a nice touch to the front-end appearance. I really like the look I have with the skid plate fitted. Of course, it provides no REAL protection, but...........

I think those rocker guards are aluminum Toby: Tequipment web page.
I would like to know what the integrated skidplate that comes with them does.

Roof Rails Questions:
A few questions:
1) What is the width between the rails when mounted?
2) Who has the best price on the roof rails?
3) Are they pretty easy to install yourself or best left to a professional installer?
I have a Thule rack set up and bike/ski carriers that I want to use w/ my Cayenne. My rack was formerly set up to mount to the roof rails on an Audi S6 Avant and there is some adjustability to the mounting feet and I'm wondering if I can get it to work on these Porsche rails on the Cayenne. The width between the rails is a key factor.
Anyone else here have any suggestions attaching Thule roof rack equipment to the Cayenne?
Thanks,
AJ

AJ,
1) Measured on the inner side of the rails, the width between is 37 inches (94 cm).
2) Probably through eBay (I bought them at my dealer).
3) Had my dealer install them for me while they were working on other things. I think Toby can give you more info on this.

beautiful Cayenne Matt. The new roof rails giv a different overall look to the Cayenne than the horizontal roofa rails. I think your look slicker as opposed to the more utility looking old ones. Congrats.
