Default 2005 Turbo Alternator same as 2009?

My alternator in my 2005 Turbo died today. I have been trying to find a replacement and find that the 2009 units are much less expensive and look the same.

Does anyone know if the newer ones will work or a good source for a reasonably priced one?

Unfortunately it must be an update style alternator as the coolant pipes going in are leaking and must be replaced and new old style connectors can be found.

Thanks

the 09s have higher capacity I believe. Why not just change the voltage regulator for $40? I did mine in the summer (really easy btw) and that was the problem as appears to be 90% the case and known issue.

Turbodan,

This sounds like a great idea, and cheaper. What about the coolant lines connectors, is there still a source for the small straight one? I can only find the newer 90 degree one and the T. I need both.

I believe I have the brand new part leftover that you are seeking. It is leftover from when I did my alternator change to the newer hitcahi on my 2005 and I did not fully research exactly what I needed. Get ready to fill up the cuss bucket on this project. It is by far the most complex alternator swap I have done.

nodoors,

cuss bucket is definitely filing up, the old one is out but having a hard time finding parts to replace or repair. I can drop the engine on my 996 and 986 faster than a can get the alternator out of this Cayenne.

I will buy the part off you if you want to get rid of it. (PM me)

Thanks

I feel for you. It seems like you might as well pull the engine once the garage is full of pieces and there is coolant everywhere. Getting that heat shield back on and the wires routed properly is a bit tricky when reinstalling. Hopefully you took a strong mental note on that step. I am out of town for Turkey day. Will dig up the part on Sunday and get back to you.
