Here's a thought, get a long thin screwdriver and a drill bit the same size. Drill a hole just below or above the bolt through the body & the plastic bracket, insert the screwdriver. Then turn the bolt so the speed-nut hits the screwdriver. Hopefully it will hold the speed-nut enough to break it loose. You are going scratch things up trying to grind the bolt off, a cleanly drilled hole may be a small price to pay...

The picture is what would be behind the body panel looking through the hole on the tail light with the cover plug removed. Red dots are potential drill locations. If the back of the speed-nut (part with threads) is turned and you drill through it, it might even be better.

I didn't get time last night. I hope to get at it again tonight. What a poor design. I'm going to gorilla glue new clips in place just in case this ever happens again.

I drilled out the bolts. Gorilla glued two brand new speed nuts on tail light and put it all back together. Turned out great!

Glad to hear it.

I was wondering if you had done anything with it.

Thanks for all the help everyone. I might take the other one out and replace the bolts and speed nuts. Now to figure out the interior light gremlin.
