TT in the shop for...
...a few things.
I haven't been keeping up the last few weeks, so I may have missed the postings of fixes, but I have several issues now:
1. The radio speakers cut in and out - Porsche knows about it, no fix yet, awaiting more info.
2. Started leaking transmission fluid - they ordered a new trans cooler and will replace it.
3. Shimmie-shimmie :-o - cardan shaft - this one I knew from all of you - it is on order and will be replaced. Pls keep up the good work - this forum has helped me immensely!
4. I get much less throttle response with PSM off. Porsche says that is what it is supposed to do. I don't buy it! The rental S I got was MUCH more responsive with the PSM on. I thought PSM was supposed to help you from driving out of control around curves. Doesn't make sense to turn it off to get throttle response? What do you think?
5. My own dumb a** took the east nav cd out and while trying to put it in the center console, the latch clipped it and cracked it. NAVTECH wants $200 to replace it! SOBs! I paid for the intellectual property! I don't even want an update (even though I was given a 2002 CD with my 2004 vehicle!) I would even pay the .50 for the CD plus shipping? Heck, even Microsoft would have just sent another CD. Anyone want to burn an east cd and send it to me? I will paypal you for it! :-)
6. I tried to put my skid plate on, and apparently there are a couple of other little parts that I didn't order with it. They are setting me straight and ordering it and installing it for me at a rate of $75/hr.
BTW, the dealer is Northland Porsche in Cinncinatti. Thus far, I am very pleased with the service and sales staff.
Thanks...Eric

a C TT?? ( you aksed how the 20 year old did it!!)

You forgot the Boxster! :-o
...Good question?
The better question would be, why would high tech professional making a comfortable living remain in the Reserves, despite having already lost a six-figure job over Military leave in Dec 2001 (right after Sept 11th)? I guess it keeps me humble. I have been fortunate enough to have had the military help me pay for part of my education, and the Army (especially the Reserve) is critically short of techno geeks (I currently work in Signal/Space operations). I spent nine years Enlisted in the Reserves first (former E7 Drill Sgt). I simply get a sense of pride and satisfaction serving my Country that my civilian job doesn't bring (no offense to them-they have been fantastic). I also have the good fortune of meeting many eclectic individuals from all walks of life. A great melting pot, if you will. I think of it as volunteer work, but I am NOT looking forward to going back to the desert for a year again anytime soon!
Anyway...I digress. Quick...get back on topic before Mike whacks my post! M:-)
Any help on my issues? I see the radio issues seem common.

Hmm.... a copy of the Nav disc. Have to try that. BTW, NavTech must like Porsche owners much better than they like GM - NT charges nearly $1,000.00 for those folks!!!

PS - Less Throttle response??? No. If traction is good, and tire spin is avoided, then Throttle should be the same, PSM or no.... unless there's something I'm missing.

Eric, Reserves makes sense! I work with Spec Ops in
Fallon so I get my thrills serving my country too, But I dont
get to put on the fatigues! its fun sitting out on the range at
nite with the FACS calling in strikes and watching stuff go boom.
My job is to make sure they go boom where they are supposed too!
Enjoy your toys you deserve it!

When I refer to throttle response I think I am primarily referring to transmission shift points. PSM off will hold a gear longer before upshifting and will downshift sooner than the standard mapping. You can invoke the same map with PSM on by driving aggressively but you have to keep your foot in it because the second you let up it goes back to economy mode.
Does any of this sound familiar?

GM - you are right on. Also with PSM ON, the initial time it takes when you hit the gas is a few seconds before it goes. With PSM OFF, it almost snaps your neck beck when you just barely TOUCH the pedal (which is what I expected out of a Turbo).

Kevin, I will know on Thurs when I pick it up. I just asked them to go ahead and do it. They said it was like $8 here $10 there type of thing (of course with Porsche, that probably amounted to 4 screws and a few lug nuts :-).....E

GREAT. When I drove the TT it had the PSM on and I thought the lag was just too much. (I compared to a sportbike throttle response.) In any event, I ordered an S last month largely because of the slow response. Wish I had known then what you guys know.

Eric,
First of all, many thanks for your service and sacrifice for our country and the free world........
My speakers are cutting out randomly as well. I thought this had something to do with the audiopilot. After reading your post I shut the audiopilot off and the speakers still cut off randomly. You say Porsche is aware of this, I assume you mean that Porsche was already aware of the problem in other vehicles in addition to yours (?)
Can't wait to hear your updates on this as well as the other issues.
Thanx,
