Default Questions about side marker light...

I was under the impression that this like was a turn signal. Apparently it is not which seem foolish is it can easily be seen by a vehicle that might be directly to my side.

I wonder why Porsche did not illuminate the mirrors with turn signals like in the Touareg. I feel it is a nice safety feature.

Now my question...any every rig the marker light to become a turn signal?

They are definitely turn signals (and my Cayenne even uses them to blink "hello" and "goodbye" at me )

There must be a malfunction on yours. I would talk to the dealer about it (after having checked it again).

I noticed you live in Europe, Matt. There are likely differences between Euro and USA models.

David,

I believe the only difference regarding the side turning signals is the standard color, which is white in Europe and yellow in North America. Check out the link below:

Mine is solid as well, and the other Cay's I have seen have been solid.

Although it is raining like hell at the moment, I ran down to my car, just to make sure that I don't write anything wrong ... et voilà it really does blink.

The confusing thing is that the link I posted above points at Porsche's US website! So maybe this feature is really turned off on the US-Cayennes and the website is just a plain translation from German, regardless of any country-specific specifications? But why would it have to be yellow in the US, if it isn't a turning signal?

My apologies, David, for being so ignorant.

My 2004 "S" amber light doesn't blink either.

your question is a very good answer. I wonder myself why the hell they make 2 different colors but now it make sense when US versions are solid and dont blink. Sidemarkers I seen been mostly orange in front and red in the back.

Did the US versions have a "breakout" into the wheelhouse like here? Pursch says over this breakout thats a safety feature that allows others in a side/back position to see that the car turns.

When I changed my US model to clear marker lights, it came with amber bulbs. I kept it amber thinking they are turn signals and it's code to have the front signals amber. Now that I know it's solid marker lights, I'm changing it back to clear (with a slight HID tint to match my Xenons).

BTW, the "Bi-Xenons" is misleading. They are in fact one bulb with one filament (vs. the hi-low hallogen bulbs where you can see two separate filament). A mechanical shutter flips down to expose more of the lense. You can hear the shutter flip. Also if you take apart the bulb, you can see the shutters.

I wonder if the turn signal effect is a programmed feature. It is likely that the computer can be programmed to flash the light.

FYI: Canadian spec Cayennes don't "blink" either. I wish they would though. Good idea about programming it. I'll see if I can get one of our techs to look into that.

Thanks, That would be great. It seems it is a safety feature that is somehow omitted.
