Default Dummy Key on Entry & Drive System

Hey all
I just received a replacement dummy key as I never had one when I bought my 957 used.
I installed it but it’s not being recognized with the key fob in my pocket.
Is there something I need to do to “program” or have the ignition recognize the dummy?
It’s clearly a dead key. When I insert my actual key, the electronic ignition clicks and fires up upon fully inserting. Press the brake, turn and fire, we have ignition.
When I put the dummy in, I press the brake and turn but no electronics, and just a message saying key not recognized. Or no key found.... not sure exactly.
Any thoughts? Am I missing something?
Thanks.

Good questions. My car also has Keyless Entry and drive but did not come with the dummy key, or even a second regular key. So, I want to hear the answers to your questions and also find out if the system is worthwhile or annoying because if it's worth it, I may see if I can get it working on mine too.

cheers,
c

Yeah- it’s definitely a great system.. It works on mine. I walk up and pull the handle. As soon as my hand is about to touch the handle, I hear it unlock that door. No worry of the keys at all. As soon as I found out that there’s supposed to be a dummy key that stays in ignition, I was all over it. I ordered it from suncoast parts and it was delivered for just under $40.
I was so looking forward to just getting in and having it ready to go.
Im let down that it didn’t work. I’m hoping it’s just something I need to activate or something.

Call your closest dealer. It might need to
be programmed like your other key.
And it is an awesome feature.

My 2004 Cayenne has Entry and Drive as well (and did not come with the key when I bought it). I purchased a new one from Suncoast, plugged it in, and it started right up. Did not need to do anything - so I don't think there is anything special needed from the dealer.

Oddly enough, it wasn’t recognizing the dummy key at first but after I locked the doors / armed the system from the drivers door handle button, it started working. It’s been fine since.
The dummy key is a great addition btw. Love the ease of operations and not having my keys hanging off the dash.

I bought an 06 cayenne with this feature but only has 1 key. Do i need a special replacement key for this or can an independent locksmith be able to make me a key with no issues. Similar to ones without the entry and drive feature.
