Do not respond to these phone numbers or email addresses if they reach out to you. They are fishing for payment for goods they do not have, typically by impersonating real members for sale ads. Report them using the triangle icon and we can remove them.

Please do not quote their contact information within the for sale threads. This will persist their information and potentially cause confusion. Feel free to post any contact information within this thread, and we'll add it to this first post.

Be wary of members that have joined recently or have low post counts. Sometimes the members that are here to scam other members will typically PM members with items to sell, especially in response to a Want to Buy thread.

Ask lots of questions and don't be afraid to ask for proof of ownership pics. Ask the member to show you a pic with a code word, that day's date and the item. If the seller does not want to do this, then run away.

Look at the post history. Are the posts useless, like "nice car" or "I put gas in it"? Probably a red flag.

DO NOT EVER send money as a gift (PayPal's Friends and Family option)! If you send the money as a gift, you will lose any chance of protection with paypal. Also, try to use a credit card as your payment with paypal. If for some reason the transaction goes south and paypal does not side with you, you may have protection from the credit card issuer and you can open a dispute with them.

 

I just got contacted by one of these numbers. Luckily, I typed the number into Google and this thread appeared.

I thought I was messaging @RennKit-Dave , but I could tell something wasn’t right…

 

It's best to just private message the seller you're trying to contact rather than posting about your interest in their public for sale thread. The latter invites scammers to contact you, pretending to be the seller!

 

FYI - a fake scam account using my username but with a . at the end just replied to a post within my FS thread pretending to be me. they used a number that's also listed above in this scam alert thread (2nd one down from the top in first column)
