Power Steering Pump, Lines + Reliability Upgrades
After a good track day, my 2003 986S' power steering started leaking in the engine area next the pump, a big whining noise was heard coming from the PS pump.
I am currently working on replacing the following while I am in there:
PS Pump (Luk OEM same as Genuine Porsche)
Upper Reservoir
Lower Reservoir
All o-rings
Pressure Line
Return Line
TuneRS Under Pulley Kit
PS Cooler (possibly. I am still researching this)
Will post the result next week for anyone who might tackle these tasks in the future.
I have the PS pump removed, now just waiting for the new parts.
While waiting for the parts, anyone have any tips? Any difficulties I may encounter next?
Just finished cleaning up this mess:
2003 986S. Just removed the Power Steering Pump. What a mess from the leak!

The power steering fluid is Pentosin. The fluid is water soluble and you can just flush that spilled fluid away with some hot water.
It is the same fluid used in my Turbo's spoiler hydraulics and when this was leaking I used water to rinse away the fluid.
You should flush the fluid away as it is not nice to rubber.

Shred ,
Suggest you research the UD pulley in SEARCH .
Some brands are weak & disintegrate -usually because the center has webs. The solid pulley seems stronger:

Schnell Gelb, thanks.
My research ended up with me ordering the TunerRS 4' Under Pulley.
Still deciding on the PS Cooler. My parts arrive on Monday for assembly.

My power steering lines were stripped when I drove off from a trailer: big mistake! Now I have new lines and Im trying to figure how the lines were aligned. It would be a great help to see any photos you might have from bottom of your Boxster.

The other source of leaks is the O rings in the P/S reservoir neck. The OEM Buna "O" rings harden with heat/time/oil.
I am currently experimenting with Viton O rings. It is tricky to specify the precise size and durometer. You need a tight fit. I found it best to lube the tube (not the O rings) with dish soap.
The second issue is to fit an overflow hose to the nipple just under the cap. I used 5.5mm(IIRC) silicone and run down, beyond the engine into a small catch can .
Note that a substitute for Pentosin is mentioned in my post above.
