Well evidently I wasn't clear with my question...I just called the parts dept. and sort of explained my situation and asked what a "new motor" costs. And yes, a brand spanking new motor from the factory costs around twenty grand. However, I talked to the service manager about a "remanufactured" motor (which I'm now putting in my dead Boxster) and total price including install is going to run me about $8k. The downside is I won't have a spanking 300hp Boxster. The good side is I'll have a motor with a two year warranty so I can enjoy the car for another year and still sell it with "warranty remaining".
Evan I spent a lot of time going through your catalog. I'm sorry I'm not going to do the 3.4 conversion! Maybe if timing were a little better, but right now Julie and I are trying to save money to move out west. The 2.5 was simply the cheapest option.

Sorry, I feel like I've posted all over the place, but I guess mostly on the Pelican site... My motor has had the dreaded "early Boxster motor failure". I'm not quite sure exactly what has happened...but the motor is "junk" (my mechanic's word, not mine). So I've been looking into options for my beloved Boxster. My mechanic has a '99 3.4 motor that I thought of putting in, thus my research leading me to this thread. But now I'm going to have the dealership replace the motor with a stock 2.5. Sadly, even at $8k it's my cheapest option.
Here's more of the story...

I'm glad to hear there is one happy story - there's yet hope that there will be somebody to put a 3.8 into my Boxstercoupe in a couple of years...
