Replacing a Boxster Top
Anyone on here done this before? My buddy has a Boxster and the top is toast. He's not on Rennlist so i'm posting this for him.
He's reasonably handy and trying to save a buck by possibly installing it himself. I would assume this is a full weekend job.
He found this and I was wondering if this is spot on or if anyone has better instructions

Thanks

1. With the top down Remove the seat belt caps and the 17mm bolt that secures the top of the seat belt.
2. below the seat belt mount you should see a 8mm hex head screw each side. I remove mine with a 13mm ratchet box end wrench.
3. Put the top into the engine service position.
4. Unsnap the cable strap both sides
5. Driver side unplug the window heater plug.
6. There are 2 more 8mm screws on the base of the frame on each side. I can get rear one with the same 13mm box end ratchet and the one in front with the Sears 13mm met-wrench socket.
7. The lift arms are bolted to the motors on both sides with a 8mm allen flat head socket cap screw I use a ratchet and short 5mm allen socket and remove both. The top will fall down to the stowed position. Be careful not to drop the bolt, sleeve, or bushing into the drain hole.
8. You'll need a second person the first time you do this pop the front arms up and out of position. Once the arm are above the seat belt mount you should be able to pick up the top tilt and pull it out.
Installing put the front screw in first after you get the top into position. Then the lift arms. Then the back screw, while pushing down and forward.
I can do this in 30 minutes. I remove my soft top and install my hard top for every track day. Installing takes 40 to 60 minutes.

There is a guy that hangs out at another web site/Porsche forum, and he is a Boxster top expert.
His user name is MauriceonLongIsland.
Oh, the forum is
http://pedrosboard.com
It might be worth paying the place a visit and searching for his posts on top replacement jobs.
Here are some links he has recommended and which other Boxster owners have used for DIY top replacement success.

There may be another link at the Pelican site. The one I posted is I think targeted towards owners who want to replace the top with a plastic window with one with a glass window.

The write ups on Focke's web site
re tops come from Maurice. Focke has no expertise in the matter. All he does is host them for the good of all. The multiple write ups should give you some ides about the complexities of the common approaches.
