there are two types of "spacers" available from Porsche.
- 5mm spacers - these are shims, and require the use of [the longer] GT3 wheel studs

- 17mm spacers - these have their own studs built in, and only require you to purchase wheel nuts.

The 5mm shims sit between the wheel and hub.
The wheel clamps it in place

The 17mm spacers bolt to the hub.
The wheel then bolts to the spacer

My initial understanding was the adapter was after market and the spacers/shims were Porsche. I think I would certainly trust the Porsche part but I still believe the adapter is weaker than the alternative.

So you paid $140 US for two front 5MM spacers and bolts.

The price quoted me was $292 (list price is $395.00) was for a set of four 5mm spacer rings(black) with 8 countersunk retaining screws, 16 wheel bolts, & anti-theft lock kit.

I don't know if I they will break up a kit if I purchase 17MM spacers for the rear. If they will, the cost per 5MM spacer including all bolts is $73.00, within $3.00 per wheel of your price.

Sorry for the confusion, I didn't realize the kit held spacers and bolts for all four wheels.

The rear kit, two 17MM spacers with installed studs and 10 wheel nuts is $215. The kit lists at $290.00.

Thanks for all the info, I wanted to try this over the summer, but never got around to research it.

I seen a couple of ads in Porsche Excellence magazine. That sparked my interest, in buying a set. IMHO the Boxster would look better with a wider stance.

Why did you pick 5mm front and 17mm rear. Is that the widest that fit in the wheel wells. I see they have a 35mm. Shouldn't the front and rear be changed to the same increase for handing reasons. My S has 265/35/18 rear tires.

Hummm I see that it is actually 15 front and 17 rear which make a little more sense balance wise. Just want to make sure before I order.

Can anyone confirm the part number for the 17mm kit for the spacers not the shims. The kit that comes with the nuts and studs. I am being told it is PN 000 044 50010 and is the 17MM ones that will fit front and rear. Thanks

Thanks Q. The folks out here have never done one so they were all over the board and took awhile to even find the 5mm shim. Thanks again. Will be on order today. I will post a shot of the car.
