Costs - I am traveling, so this is from memory. All in US dollars.

New 3.4 Engine - 9,000
Cam Upgrades - 3,000
Headers - 1,200
Cats - 1,200
Motronic reprogram- 1,500
Sachs power clutch - 800
Labor - 5,000 (includes install of new cams, new airbox construction, removal of old engine, installation of new, brakes)
4 Drilled rotors and SS lines - 500

When Roock does the same conversion (w headers and chip), they get around 300 HP. It's about 320 HP doing the same with a 3.6 996 engine.

What's the h.p. potential from the 3.6 996 motor.

I answered that in my post - about 320 HP, though with some tuning I've heard you can get around 340 HP.

I wonder if a big-block Chevy motor would fit?

Ignore the actual power figures, Our DYNO DYNAMICS dynos give a low reading compared to DYNO JET dynos

A local Porsche race car driver has a 3.4 Boxster as his personal drive car.
On a recent club track day, only the GT3 on slicks was ahead of him - and there was nothing in it

Something is amiss here because I've driven a 3.4L Boxster conversion and it was pretty much a dead heat for my old 3.2L Boxster S+Headers+Intake+ECU, not lightyears ahead as this dyno chart would seem to indicate. The 3.4L Motor from the 996 is rated at 295HP at the crank, or about 250 at the wheels, my modified 3.2L was cranking out 247 at the rear wheels so like I said, it was a pretty even match for a stock 3.4L.

Now if this were a highly modified 3.4L then I could see this chart making sense...

They must be using a stock 996 3.6L motor unless you are talking rear wheel horsepower and not crank hp. The 3.6L is 320 at the crank but can easily go up to 350 at the crank without forced air....

Nothing is amiss.
The scale of the printed dyno runs is 90kw (120hp) from min to max, so a small variation appears large.

Lets break them down and look at them. (flywheel HP's quoted)

The 3.4L Boxster with exhaust, intake, chip did 230kw (308hp)
The Boxster S with exhaust, intake [no chip] did 203kw (272hp)
The standard Boxster S does 191kw (256hp)
This is all consistent with the dyno sheet.

The Boxster S in this comparison did not have a chip, so it won't be making as much HP as your car.
The 3.4 does have a chip & intake and exhaust, so it will be making more HP than the 3.4 you drove
....hence the difference between them is greater than the 2 cars you are comparing.
There, clear as mud

As a side issue it would have been interesting to see the 2 cars race.
Butt-o-meters often don't tell the whole story.....

cheers

My 3.4 with FVD Motronic reprogram, FVD AIrbox / Intake, Headers, 100 Cats & stck muffler did 338hp at the flywheel and 312 at the wheels at FVD.

Still have 5 speed and have been told that it is not as efficient as 6 for getting the power down hence the 26 hp drop.

Next build will be a 6 speed and a pair of Garrett ball bearing turbos.

I will pick up this weekend my boxster S in Roock Germany with a 3.6L conversion . They told me it will rate more than 330 hp. If I receive the dyno report I will post it.

If you don't mind I would be interested in the final bill, and what if any other work you had done.
