The filling is done through the opening to the tank -- or reservoir -- that is in the engine fluids service bay that is accessible with the rear trunk open. AFAIK I have never seen any access to the tank you pictured unless of course the tank is being replaced due to a leak.

Interesting. I've got two coolant tanks. But both tanks do the same thing so guess it doesn't matter which I use. The one in the engine bay feels more solid so might use that.

Waterpump replaced a few minutes ago. Will refill after a walk on the beach. And a beer.

Thanks for your interest and comments.

just read the first thread again, you have a 2008 987. I thought it was a 986
Maybe the 987 is different????

Did someone drop a 996/997 engine in there?

Can you post a pic of the trunk and engine area?

Yes, it's a 987.1 but nearly everything is identical to the 986.

Pics as requested attached.

Engine bay of my 987.1 2008. Note coolant tank.

interesting

You may want to post on the 987 forum as that is definitely different for a 986
Not that you are not welcome here at all

All sorted. My chinese uview didn't pull enough vacuum so filled it manually unfortunately. Everything seems fine. Been for a few drives, temp within range.

Amazing how much quieter the cabin is now - can just hear the exhaust now. So I guess the pump had been on it's way out for a while.

Only problem is I found oil by the bell housing so suspect an RMS leak...but that's a job for another weekend.

Thanks for all the support and advice.

Oh, and another thing I found interesting. Replacing the water pump has solved a slightly unstable idle. Before the new pump my idle used to fluctuate a bit between 660 and 720rpm quite noticeably. Now it doesn't.

Not sure if it's related but thought worth letting people know. I initially thought it was an air leak...

Keep the burp valve open for a few heat cycles and check the coolant level for a few heat cycles to make sure all the air is out of the system

Do a search for burp and you will find lots pf info also in the DIY on pelican

I did for the first two cycles. Problem is that the burp valve on the 987 is in the engine bay, not the trunk. Coolant level stable after 2 more drives so am happy with my work. Temps normal too.

Ignore this one - can't seem to delete it. Posted by mistake.
