Can anyone tell me if all the long blocks are the same from 99 to 2005? I am looking at possibly picking up a 05 that needs an engine.

Don't think they can be the same. The earlier Boxster models came with 2.5l engine while the latter model years came with either a 2.7l or a 3.2l engine.

At some point VarioCam Plus appeared so even the 2000 to 2005 2.7l or 3.2l long blocks are probably not the same depending upon when VarioCam Plus showed up (2003?).

 

If you are asking which long blocks are interchangable, 2003-2005 are regardless of displacement size.
