Sticky *****...
Hi.
First post to the 986 forum. Long time poster in the 928 forum. I did several searches for this issue, but wasn't able to pick the right words or phrases to find a thread on this subject.
Picked up a very nice Seal Gray Metallic 2006 Boxster S last weekend.
The one issue that I have with the car is that the Temperature and Fan ***** on the climate control are super sticky. I believe they may originally been coated with some sort of rubberized paint to help with tactile feedback?
Now it's like they have sort of dissolved and white is showing through the surface?
I'm assuming many of you must have encountered something like this?
Do you know if these ***** can be resurfaced or even replaced? Is there something aftermarket that holds up better?
Looking for ideas. Thanks in advance!
(Oh, I guess I'll need to update my signature soon!)

This is not the exact same issue....
But, similar. I just re-coated the radio ***** on my Boxster. If you can remove the *****, then read my post on the main forum of Pedrosboard.com
The topic is labeled:
Old Topic, now a minor inconvenience.
The re-coating has worked perfect so far.

Thanks for the pointer to your other post. I'll check out what you did for the *****.
It wasn't very clear to me how to remove these ***** without special tools as it looks like a portion of the control console needs to be removed. Is there a trick for that? I'm going to start doing some additional reading on that subject.

Post the question for **** removal on Pedros Board....
It is very active and the members are experienced. My Boxster is older that yours. ***** are probably different.

Thanks Tony.
One thing that I noticed that is different here is that my ***** have actual icons on them. I'm assuming I could re-paint them black, but then the "light through" icons would be obscured.

Try cleaning them with rubbing alcohol (the stuff you buy at a pharmacy) first. That worked for me but mine were only a little sticky (not super sticky, like yours)

Extanker - that has to be why they have this type of coating. They feel somewhat rubberized when you touch them, but mine have moved to sticky and the original "Temp" and picture of a fan have started to dissolve off the *****.
