Boxsters are getting cheap...time to pick one up as a weekend/track toy.

Yup. This is why I picked up a Boxster over a more expensive S2000. Crazy deals, but make sure you get a good one. Service records, etc.

Agreed. I've seen a lot with out any service records and would rather pay a couple extra $$ for them. Great track/weekend cars.

Don't forget to get the IMS bearing replaced.

My car has just shy of 90k miles, probably the last 10k miles exclusively on track. I have never done the IMS upgrade. This engine is amazing being how I beat the crap out of it. I keep waiting for the engine to blow so I can put a 3.8 but it keeps on going. As for the handling, wow, what a sweet chassis.

Unfortunately it will fail without warning even if you are checking the oil filter for debris.

I keep trying to convince my wife to get one. But she still has her Toyota Spyder from her teenage years. It is mid-engine, convertible, 2 seater, and fun to drive.

I loved my 85 MR2. Fantastic and frugal car.

I'm in the same boat as Mark. I'll take care of the car, but I'm gonna use it and if it pops, find a 3.4.

would be fun to get a bunch of fellas together with a full road trip.

rules would be everybody find a 1997-2004 boxster for no more then $10000.00 and drive them somewhere like a mini cannonball.
Like a vegas run or something...

Just snagged this one as my drive to the track toy.

Adding deep sump, baffle & roll bar extension.

Congrats txhokie4life. That should be a ton of fun at the track. Did you get it for around the 7k mark?

Actually I did (just under).

Caveat -- it has a Salvage title due to water. However the carpets were all replaced and there is no corrosion under the drivers seat. No signs of sitting
water anywhere. Even the ground wire/screw was perfect.

They either replaced the Immob or it never had any issues. Runs like a top.

It's a local car. We had some torrential rains earlier this fall. I suspect
that the top drain holes must have been clogged (they aren't anymore).
And the water entered the car behind the carpet.
Heck it even has a new rear window. I recognize the area's best top shop repairman's handy work. He's done 4 of my previous cars.

It was sold at auction, a local shop picked it up and put it on CL.

I found it and beat them upside the head with cash until they let me drive it home :-)

tracks closed for the holidays -- hoping my parts get here soon so
I can be ready when they open back up.

cheers.

Mike

So, what can I realistically expect to get for my 2000 Boxster 5-spd with 95k miles. She has new rotors, new rear tires, new brake pads, oil change done every $5k miles and runs great! I want to sell it to get a 996, possibly a C4S or a Turbo. I was hoping to get $10k. One of the dealers here said I can get a maximum of $7k for trade-in due to IMS issues on these engines. Is $10k too high of an expectation?

Cheers,
-K

$7K? Cool but in 2013 alone I spent over $6K on water pump, rotors, shocks, control arms, wheel bearings, coil packs and plugs, alignment, replacing a cracked wheel and fluids and filters. And my car only recently went over the 90K mile mark after being garage kept nearly all its years. And of course there have been some steep $4K and higher repairs before this year as well.
Maintaining a 986 is no cheaper than maintaining a 997 or 997... I hear DIY oil changes are a PITA on the 991.

So cheap to buy, but NOT cheap to own if you want a car that drives the way it was engineered to do so.
