Default "Boxster" On Trunk

I'm looking at Boxsters in the 1998-2002 range and it seems that some of them say on the trunk "Boxster" and some don't.

Why is that? How much would it cost to add that on?

There are two models.

Boxster and Boxster S. The easy tell between the two if they are un-modified are:

One tailpipe vs two
Two radiator openings in bumper vs. three, left middle, right
Black brake calipers vs red calipers
5 speed vs 6 speed

There was a no cost option for badge removal.

As for replacing it, you can buy it online at Suncoast or Peilcan.

The Boxster script badge is just held in place with douible sided tape.

Some owners remove it to clean up the trunk lid. Same applies to the Porsche badge on the front trunk lid. (Now some models, at least this is the case of my 996 Turbo, this front trunk lid badge is actually attached and to remove it leaves a hole in the front trunk lid!)

Some remove the Boxster script badge when it gets damaged. A wash rag thread can snag a raised portion and snap a piece off. This has happened to the Boxster script badge on my car's trunk but I have not bothered to remove the damaged thing.

And it may even be possible that an option was to have that script deleted/not installed at the factory (along with the front trunk Porsche badge).

I do not what it costs to add the missing Boxster or Boxster S script. The part cost is probably (probably) not very much.

One could probably apply it himself if he knew what he was doing.

Sincerely,

Macster.

I've done it a number of times for cars, you can go online or to the dealer and it's usually $20-30 for script like that for the model name, etc... Looks better with it on for sure.

It's worth removing and replacing just to clean up the paint and even it out.

i removed mine & planned to replace it w/ a new one. turns out i like it better with no script, so i left it off. it was also a factory option to delete the script.

if you want to remove yours, use dental floss underneath. once the badge is removed, clean the goo with adhesive remover. don't forget to re-apply wax afterward.

Porsche offered a "model designation delete" option. I like the script there because the car looks like it's ben rear ended and repaired without it.

Mine was pretty tough to get away.

I wanted to re-use it, so I was extra careful. Using some blowdryer heat, I ended up needing floss to "saw" it off.

Sprayed it aluminum and reapplied after cleaning and buffing the trunk. Simple Green or WD-40 will soften the residue. Give it some time on there, don't be in a rush. I wouldn't plan on getting it perfect all in one shot.

Why would you want to add it back on and lose all these benefits:

-cleaner look
-less weight
-less drag
-increase of 2+ HP
-improved top end speed

I slid dental floss underneath the script, and flossed the glue right out, and it came off nicely, and upgraded to the new silver titanium script. Nice. http://www.eagleday.com/emandde.html

Does it fit 2002 Boxster?

Just kidding, I like the aluminum, and may get one sometime soon.
