just bought it with 36,500k,worried about ims bearing.would like to wait till it needs clutch to do the bearing, but that could be 40k from now.is it crazy to put in ceramic bearing now,or just change oil every 5k and look for metal in filter?

I don't think it is at all crazy. In fact no matter if it was a Carrera or Boxster I would immediately have the LN IMS put in.
The idea that in order to save a few hundred bucks on a new clutch and in the process delay a remedy for a probelm that could potentially cost you thousands of dollars is illogical to me. Do it regardless of the clutch's age. Either way you will have a new clutch. No brainer.
p.s.
looking for metal in the filter sounds a bit like a lottery. It turns out that if you see metal in the filter the failure is iminent, the very next start up could be its last. What are the chances that you will be changing your oil during that narrow window? pretty unlikely.

Welcome to Rennlist Boxster forum. Pics of your new ride please.
A simple search will bring up hundreds of post with answers/opinions to your question.
Your question is a very old debate, that most new Boxster owners ponder once they hear the horror stories.

nine year old car with only 36K miles puts you in that category that makes some people wonder.
Did the previous owner drive the car year round or did they let it sit for winter hibernation?
How many oil changes has the car had in that time?
