Default Boxster for sale

I have lived in my town for about 25 years and saw the first Porsche ever for sale in Columbus, Nebraska. It is a base 1999 Boxster model with sport edition, 43K miles, 5 speed and appears very clean, black with turbo twist wheels and tan interor. The owner is asking $17.500. I did speak with the gentleman and he is the 2 nd owner and it has always been stored in heated garage. Everything is reported to be in perfect working order. He is getting a newer Porsche. I am not affiliated but I am very close to the car if anyone wants me to check it out for them. PM me if you want the owners contact #.

I stopped by to look at the car again today. It is only about 8 blocks from me. It seems to be well sorted. Some chips but do not see any accident damage. Interior is clean except for some bolster wear. I do not know Boxsters values but it seems to be a lot of car for the asking price. Is there any maintance that should have been done by 41K?

45K miles is a 'major' service IIRC for the '99 Boxsters.

My WAG is a by the book service one's looking at over $500, probably way over. I've seen prices of over $1000 bandied about by some owners.

For that car unless it has had it done or is part of the next service, I'd budget for an oil/filter service; replace both the engine air and cabin air filters; spark plugs; fuel filter; brake fluid flush/bleed; coolant drain/refill; and while 41K/45K miles a bit premature I'd work in a tranny/diff fluid change, too.

Included in the by the book service is the water drains should be checked/cleaned.

What is probably not included but should be done -- if the tech believes its necessary -- the front bumper cover should be removed and the radiator air ducts thoroughly cleaned of any debris/sand/dirt/etc.

Sincerely,

Macster.

To me, the car is overpriced by about $5k based on national prices via autotrader.

17.5 for a 99 is pushing it..that is about the price that 03 or newer "S" are going for (I just paid 15.5 for a 02 S with 64k on it in October)

Thanks for the response's, I was beginning to think the the Boxster forum was a ghost town. I really do not know the value of Boxsters but I thought I would put it out there since it is so close to me. What I can tell you is that I believe it is an honest seller and a well cared for car. As far as final price? I do not know what is fair. If anyone has serious interest and wants to make a fair offer I would love the chance to inspect and drive the car for you. I am out to gain nothing but just the learning experience about Boxsters.

I would stay away from 99's due to the porous blocks issue.

However, a 45k 1999 should be +/- $1k from $10k IMHO.

He's not selling a Boxster or anything else.
