Default Speaker Question

Hi Folks. My 99 Boxster is base. It didn't come with door speakers.
Question1) Can I cut holes in the doors to accomodate 5 1/4" speakers?
Question2) If I do, will it interfere with the window?

Default Yes...you can

I added door speakers to my first Boxster.
Not all speakers have the same depth..some mount more above the surface than others. Some have bigger magnets, etc.
You should check the depth available against the depth of the speakers you are considering.
Also, the wiring was a little tricky...I ran the wires in the wire run that was there for the locks, window, etc. Good luck.

I am contemplating this too. Do the doors have to be cut or just the door panels? I've looking for the inexpensive route and want 6.5 inch speakers.

Cheers,
Joe

Default I did not have to cut the doors (metal)...

I just had to cut the carpeted panel.

Great Info ! Thanks for the advice. I'm not worried about the wiring. I've done a few cars previously. I've already installed an amp in the car but it's only running the dash speakers. I will have this knocked out tomorrow. I have a sheet of dynamat and baffles to lessen the vibration.
Nice looking rides guys !

Hi. Thanks for the info! It all worked out well. I cut the holes and installed the speakers. Didn't put the dyanamat or the baffles in because it sounds fine as it is. You could definently put 6.5's in there. Maybe I'll upgrade later.

Awesome. How did you attach the speakers?

It was easy. I just drilled the screws into the plastic. No drama. The wiring was tough to get through the door harness so I cut a little bit of it. I messed up the door lock by closing the door before I had all the stuff tucked back in. I went on the forum and found out how to remove the door panel and fixed the door lock ( WAY EASIER THAN A 944!). I'll probably tweek this at a later date as i experiment with sound. I put MB Quart 4" in the dash and Polk audio 5 1/4" in the doors. I had MB for the doors but I didn't like the sound.
