Default Winter tire and wheel fit......

Before I drive 2.5 hours to check out a set of four rims and winter tires for my Boxster, I have a couple of questions for you. I have a 2001 Boxster base(2.7 engine) which has 17 inch tires but the ad. says that this person has front205/55 r 16 and rear 225/50 r16 winter tires and rims for sale. Are they guarenteed to fit my Boxster? They apparently are Porsche rims and I have asked for the make of the tires, how old the tires are etc. Is rim offset a factor such that they might not fit? In the Box. manual what does the 89 TM + S mean for the front?

If I get good answers from the seller, I might take a drive down and if am satisfied with his answers, then I would try a front and rear tire / wheel on the one side. Being a Porsche newbie, I could not do otherwise. Naturally sceptical.

Yes your are right, Damon from Tire Track does not respond to my email request for info. If all else fails , I might just get a set of new winter tires and put them on my existing rims and see what kind of winter driver this P car is. Believe it or not cant wait for winter to try try it out. I never thought I would say that about winter! Never say never.
Thanks in advance, Guy.

Boxster 986 factory approved 16" sizes (17" min for S models)

Front: 6"x16" (ET50) 205/55 ZR 16
Rear: 7"x16" (ET40) 225/50 ZR 16

This is what I use in the winter and they work well.

Indeed, base car, base wheels were 16". Most were "optioned" with 17" wheels or even 18".

The Boxster S had to use 17" wheels (as base wheels) due to its larger front brake calipers

But the smaller the wheel/tire the better for winter driving especially in snow. Do remember that it isn't a SUV so deep snow is a no no though I certainly handled 4 inches and lots of semi plowed roads and snow ice mixes.

Summer tires and below 40 it can get dangerous...cost me a perfect Boxster.
