Default My IMS DIY and Rennlist Boxster intro

Hey everyone,

I’ve been lurking and randomly posting here in the Boxster forums since returning to P-car ownership in January after being a long-time 944 member. I ended up finishing my DIY IMS retrofit this weekend and figured its as good a time as any to actually post some pics.

I found my 02 986 S after moving to North Carolina this year and consider myself extremely lucky to have found a well cared for, PCA member car immaculately kept. However, I had planned on IMS retrofitting any M96 I ended up purchasing and the car I ended up buying had gotten a new clutch less than 10k miles ago.

I ended up finishing my DIY IMS retrofit this weekend and wanted to share my experience.

During the project, I found the following things invaluable,
- The Bentley Boxster Manual
- 101 Projects for Your Boxster by Wayne Dempsey @ PelicanParts.com
- This Post: http://www.renntech.org/forums/topic...anny-r-r-tips/
- This Post: http://boxsterguide.blogspot.com/201...-info-and.html
- And This Post: https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...t-bearing.html

Following directions from the above 5 sources, it was a fun project and I feel like I really “know” my own Boxster now.

Here’s some pics of both my Boxster and the project. I do plan to finish a full write-up in the future, but I think I’m gonna go for a drive and enjoy the completed project for a bit first.

Cheers,
Scott

What shape was your old IMS bearing in and how many miles did it have on it?

78.5k miles. The old bearing spun freely and appears in decent shape.

I just did my 2001 Boxster - dual row - with 80,000 miles. Old bearing appeared to be fine but sent it back to L&N for their inspection and statistical use.
