Default Out of warranty RMS issue and the dealer

After inspection of the underneath of my car and through research on this site it appears I might have a potential RMS issue. My car is clearly out of warranty from an age perspective but I only have 15k on the car (01). I know I have to take it to the dealer so they can look at it. Just trying to see what other owners experience has been with their out of warranty RMS issue and if the dealer (Porsche corporate) did anything for them.

Default had this issue

mine leaked under warranty...twice...then it started leaking again last year (three years after warranty ended)....mine's an 01s with 50k miles.

I took it in and the porsche dealer offered to pay 1/2 of the cost of the repair...and they tried to convince me I needed a new clutch. I took it to two reputable independents and both said the same thing: "this is one of the driest boxster motors I've ever seen and don't fix the clutch until it needs it...and it doesn't need it"

Thats what I thought. Mine is very minimal and I think I'm going to wait until I need a clutch.

Just be sure the leak is an RMS and not something else. RMS gets all the press but these engines can leak from other areas: spark plug tubes, camshaft covers, camshaft plugs, front main seal, and a cracked/split AOS, to name the ones I can think of.

Even if the leak say coming from something else you can choose to let it leak if the leak isn't bad and covering rubber or plastic or wiring with oil.

If the leak is coming from the AOS (air/oil separator) though you may want to have the AOS replaced cause with an AOS there is more at risk than just an oil spot on the garage floor.

15K miles is not many miles. Most AOSs fail at higher miles. But age plays a role as well and I'm not sure at what point age takes over. Just check the leak out to be sure where it is coming from and where it is not coming from.

Sincerely,

Macster.
