Default newbie Boxster owner, can't get the front trunk open

Relatively new to Porsches, got a 928 a few months ago and now, for reasons that most of my friends and family cannot figure out, I have a Boxster as well.
2000 Boxster. Both the electronic pulley thing in the cockpit will open either the front or the back trunks. The back will open with the remote control. The front, I tried getting a little plastic screwdriver on the plastic thing and moving it to the right (as the wondeful OM instructs) and that seems to be to no avail. Other than a metal grinder and sledge hammer, any other ideas out there?
Thanks in advance.

From my 2000 boxster I recall

1) open drivers door
2) Pull up on lever for front trunk to open
3) Walk to front of car
4) Slide red tab to "unlock" latch
5) Lift trunk lid

In an emergency, there is supposed to be access behind the fender liner in the front fender (can't remember which one though). It is supposed to allow access to the pull wire.

Once you get it opened, you might want to do a check to make sure items are in correct alignment, that the latch is operational and nothing seems "stretched" out of shape.

The emergency pull wire is on the drivers side.

To be fair, part of me thinks the red tab gets pushed Left as you look at the car from the front.. But its been 2 years since I had my boxster.

When the trunk is released by the lever inside, it should "pop up" a bit, enough to allow fingers to easily reach the red tab. Perhaps yours isn't fully releasing, causing a problem.

Its a great car. Stay out on the boards and ask questions.

If you don't have them, find an owners manual and a Bentley publishers service manual for the Boxster. Great things to have and helpful for a DIY person (helps avoid $100/hr shop rates)

The boxster is pretty do it yourself friendly so have no worries.

mine ist kaput too. Can't find the wire, either thru the wheel well or under the bumper.

I have power at the connector, and continuity thru the switches.

No d/s window either, it won't go up :0(

Is the cable bare wire or sheathed? The only thing I felt was a soft metal tube about 1/8", it felt likea brake line, so I didn't go off on it.

It's in there, just really deep. If memory serves it is bare wire.

Stranded I believe.

I'll try and check my car later today to be sure.

This is what it looks like on my car

Look in the passenger side front wheel well. You will probably need to remove the wheel well liner to reach it.

Ugh.

It makes more sense to be on the driver's side, but...?

I can't take the wheel off w/o the lug lock.

If I'm yanking out a wheel well, it HAS to be the right one...or is it the left?

Answer

The method varies by year. On the 2000 model there is an emergency release under the drivers side headlight. You have to remove the wheel and front of the splash shield to access it (you do not need to remove the whole splash shield). It is a black flexible wire loop, just pull it and it will unlatch the hood.
