Default Tire Question

A good friend of mine has a 01 Boxster S that is completely stock. For a recent DE he installed the Nitto NT01 track tires size 245/40 18 on the front. I believe, due to the left side loading on the track, the spring perch rubbed the inside 1-1/2" of the tread down a great deal. The right side had no issues.
What size tires are the Boxster people using and is this a case of the stock suspension being simply too soft? Will a narrower front be better for his situation?
Thanks

My stock suspensioned boxster, that saw track use, had no issues with a 225 up front, 18" wheel and had no rubbing. I could see a 245 rubbing as it gets tight in there. Much more important to work on camber/alignment setting when going that much wider than stock (205-225 depending on model) Stock suspension is also kind of soft, so it compresses a lot.

I would say that is the wrong tire size for the front. Why go bigger than the 225's that's recommended and are stock? Trying to induce more understeer?

Sounds like he was trying to run an all square setup. Although don't most ppl do that on two pairs of stock 17" rear wheels?

Larger front tires on the boxster help reduce understeer.. not induce it

Depending on the setup (camber etc) It is most likely a sizing issue.... I ran 235's on the front in a pinch once and had rubbing issues up front on my 2001 s, so 245's could really cause an issue.

For DE use there is no need to go to a larger front tire... any understeering can be dialled out with alignment on stock 225's
