Unusual color. Can't say I've seen a pastel yellow Boxster before.

Why do you ask about crate engine or salvage/donor engine? From the info at the site I say no mention the engine's shot.

Crate engine prices vary some. I am not current on the 2.5l crate engine prices but I bet one wouldn't get much change from a $10,000 bill should he buy one. Installation's probably another $1000 to $1500 and this assumes that the tech finds nothing else that needs attention. That old of a car I'd be tempted to replace all coolant hoses just to be safe.

But as I mentioned above, I see nothing in the ad text that says this car needs a new engine.

Even though miles are "low" and car's condition, from the pics anyway, looks to be quite good, a PPI a must on this car of course.

Sincerely,

Macster.

They want $12.5k for this car. Why is that interesting? I like Speed Yellow much better than pastel. I think there is a good reason why its a rare color.

Macster, I think he is comparing this car to a car with a bad motor that he would then install a crate motor in. If this is the case he would be better off financially buying a running car in good condition (passes PPI and all) vs. buying a car with a bad motor and trying to get it running. Of course this assumes one buys a running car right and not paying more that market value, as the cost of crate motors are getting close to the price of nice used Boxsters values now.

Didn't pick that up. My reading comprehension is down to the point I know Spot is running but who or what Spot is I can't for the life of me fathom.

I agree: Better to shop/buy a running car. They are so much easier to evaluate to an acceptable level of confidence.

Older non-running Boxsters are worth so little used that a non-running example is nearly worthless or even worthless, beyond or worse yet less than worthless. But try telling that to the owner.

There are exceptions I'm sure. If one knows of a car and then the engine blows up knowing the car takes most (but not all) of the worry out of the car and its condition that can't be verified cause engine not running.

Then the possibility of picking this car up at the right price to make replacing the engine a viable solution is better.

Even so, given the cost of a factory replacement engine and the cost to have it installed so one receives the full 2 year, 24K mile warranty, for older Boxsters even if in excellent condition other than the blown engine, it just doesn't make sense or pardon the play on words: cents.

If one wants to go the salvage yard route this complicates the situation cause now one is faced with evaluating an engine that is probably not even in a car. It doesn't take too many engine R&R's to really eat up any savings one acquired by finding a known car with a blown engine and seeking to get it back on the road on the cheap.

Sincerely,

Macster.

Two cool, rare, and unique colors that most people hate are pastel yellow Porsches and the cream (beige) Mercedes color from the 70's and 80's. Pastel yellow rocks IMO.

Pastel yellow, there used to be one I would see all the time on the way to track at Tremblant. I kinda liked it. Sometimes, certain SY's look too orangey.
