Default 2003 Boxster S has no outside temperature display

Just traded my 97 Boxster (with outside temp display) for a 2003 Boxster S, and was surprised to discover that it does not have an outside temp display. Read in some forums that the dealer could "turn-on" the OBC, which would enable the display. Yesterday, dealer tried without success. Anyone have experience with the '03 model and making this work? I'm hoping to avoid the fourth-stalk install (or dash switch), but maybe that's necessary. When I look closely at the center display, below the odometer and tripometer, I see other unlit characters, but nothing that looks like outside temp. Thanks

you are correct that the dealer needs to turn it on. I had this done on my 01 but not sure about having it done on the 03 model.
OBC was an option.
