2003 Boxster S CDR 23 - iPOD hookup
I am looking for options for hooking up my iphone to my stereo a 2003 Boxster S CDR 23. Just having an aux in would be cool. Are there other stock 2003 systems that have aux that i could get used to achieve me goal. Any help or experience would be appreciated.
I am open to replacing my head unit and amp but would like the new components have been an available option for the year. Thanks for the help!!
Regards,
James

Can't be done with the MOST bus on the CDR23, sorry, not without completely replacing both the amp and the head unit. The only workaround is to use an FM transmitter.

jesiv, do you have the front trunk mounted CD Changer? If so, take an 10' audio cable with L/R female RCA inputs, unplug the inputs from the CD changer and plug that into to the new cable you just bought. Run the line through the trunk, around the edge of the door and up under the dash and use the headphone input on your iPhone to get audio. Just fill the CD changers with terrible CD's (you won't be listening to them anyway...) and set the CDR23 to play CD's. The output will be coming from your iPhone. Works perfectly for me and cost a whopping $8.00 for the cable from Radio Shack.

Thanks for the feedback!
I am currently using an FM modulator (it works but is not satisfying ). Can I just add the cd changer to my existing system and be done or do I need to replace the head unit and the amp? If so what stock Porsche radio/system should I be looking for?

I installed the Dension Gateway 500 in my '03 986S using the stock CDR-23 head unit and it works perfectly. The unit plugs into the MOST bus, pretending to be a cd changer. With the CDR-23 you can't see track info on the display, but I mounted the ipod near the dash and can control it directly.
It's a bit expensive (~$500) and requires the dealer to enable the cd player, but sounds soooooo much better than an FM modulator, and much easier to install compared to a complete replacement of the head unit.

Another option:
http://www.iwirep.com/
Takes all of 15 minutes to install.
Only problem is you have to use the iPod controls to navigate your menus.
That's what playlists are for.
