While I would never suggest that luck wasn't involved, you'd think they'd give some credit to the safety and build quality of the car. But not one mention...

I like how she she says it "miraculously" "landed upright" without mention that it quite obviously rolled.
Also, anyone else notice the spoiler was up? Kid was going at least 55 when he hit the edge.

Boxster spoilers raise at 75. Unless a) he put it up with the button by the footwell (not likely) or b) the forces of the roll (rolls?) caused it to release. But I'm with you...I'm betting the car was going over 75. Its pretty hard to lose control of a Boxster (one of the best handling cars on the road) at "only" 55.

Egads. Definitely rolled, but glad to see how solid it is built. Hope I never have to find out first hand.
Lucky kids... hope they learn (are taught!) a lesson.

I've spun my Boxster S at speeds as slow as 45 during autocrosses, it *can* be done!

I spun the car pulling out of a parking spot on dewey asphalt...moment of polar inertia sneaks up on you.
What I want to know is did they go down/roll down that long ramp? or did the really go over the edge like in a movie?

I don't see evidence that the car rolled. The windshield appears to still be there and barely cracked, the corners of the windshield frame looked fine, the top of the car looked OK. It looks like it took a massive hit to the bottom of the front and rear of the car by the looks of the creases in the body and doors. It probably just drove into the pit as opposed to fell in.
I wonder where the measurement of 70 feet came from. Is that supposed to be the depth of the pit? That pit doesn't look as deep as a 7 story building.
Typical media sensationalism.
