Ray, if you let us know your budget range, we can probably take a stab at what MY you are looking at. For instance I got a very clean 01-S with 46K miles, M030 Suspension and Sport Seats for $18K (back in Feb).

Im kinda in the same boat. I currently own a 86 944 turbo (2.5) with upgrades but the maintenace and expensive breakages are killing me. I have run across a deal for a 2001 boxster 2.7 - sparkling and near perfect. Test drove the car and was very unimpressed with the power, actually dissapointed for I was waiting a long time to test drive the car. I was loving the convertible aspect and all the nice gadgets but the power, especially when it came to highway passes, was just lethargic. The handling was a smidge better but it seriously lacked acceleration. But I am still considering it.

rob76 how did your track 944 compare to your 986?

It's all about the torque. I remember back in '00 trying out the then fresh 3.2 and the 2.7 back to back. I thought the 2.7 was a nicer day to day car, not a rocket ship by any means but more accessable torque lower in the rev range when compared to the 3.2 and especially the 2.5. Off the top of my head I know the horsepower went from 201 to 217, but dont remember torque figures, but they didn't change a lot. I just remember thinking that for such a minimal on paper increase the effect was vast.

I sold my 951 and have moved up to a Boxster S. I have driven the 3.2 in the past and was impressed with the power. Not a 951 when the boost kicks in ... but still impressive. Up your search to an S and I think you will not be disapointed. My 2002 S is up on a hoist having the motor rebuilt (bought it with this issue), price reflected it as well!!!
