I dunno, but I hope they are kidding with the "That's All Folks" image. I will sorely miss that board if it's really kaput.

Matt
A posting by Rob in Houston says he decided to close it down I guess due to the amount of time it took away from spare time, at the expense of spending more time with his family, and the lack of contributions to help sustain its cost of operation.

Sincerely,

Macster.

Too bad, it was a great site. I used to visit it when I had my Boxster, tell them all to migrate here
We need some more action on the 986/987 Forums!

It is not accepting new posts. I don't know if the intention is to leave it in read-only state, or close down the whole site.

A few folks are discussing options, but Chuck said when it's over, it's over...and Rob takes that seriously. Sad day if so...nice community, been there a long time.

In case PPBB shuts down before everyone has a chance to read this:

There has been a way to donate to the board for years which total about $60.00/ year out of about $3-3500 in server and bandwidth costs. Several have angrily suggested that I owed them more of a warning, maybe I do, or maybe it was that ongoing bit of arrogance and since of entitlement is what finally pushed the decision.

I might say that after 5 years and $17500.00 and uncounted hours put into the board (at the expense of my family), I owe very little except to the Deputies, to whom I owe my deepest thanks.

To those that are angered, that the free ride is over, find another board and make some form of monetary contribution to it because I don't think Obama is going to bail out a BBS.
Word from Cecil is that it may come back in a different form. Which would be nice- I never really cared much for the format.

So I sent and Email to Cecil offering my help (i.e., $) all we need is 35 - 40 peple willing pony up maybe $100 - $150 a piece.

I just got a reply from Cecil as follows:

"Keep checking back. We are trying to work something out. Probably a
subscription format.

Cecil"

So do the same if you want to help.

I think it had been in decline the last few years and the board format was very old school. In addition there had been some really ugly posts in recent months in my opinion. I agree with Rob, I think it was time.

Kudos to Rob and the guys that had been able to keep it up and running these last few years. I'm sure they had to put a lot of thankless effort into it and I don't think they owe anybody anything.

PPBB is a great board. I was a member there long before I'd ever even heard of Rennlist.
