Am looking to replace ill used wife's sedan with either of the above as she's taken over my new 09 Cayenne S so much that I rarely get to drive it anymore!
In her defenese its a great car! Anyway am thinking of picking up an 08 Cayman or Boxster but am unfamiliar with the current market. Last p-car was my 05 Carrera base which I recently sold when picking up the Cayenne S this past March (yeah am still kickin myself for that deal..wife's subliminal Jedi mind trick I think). Anyway any thoughts on starting points and pro vs cons on each car?
Dealer is hinting on huge discounts to move 08 demos, company cars, and the like on both models and would like some data before I hit the lot on Thur afternoon and thoughts.
Thanks
Rob

For all intents and purposes they are the same car (regardless of the BS that Porsche feeds us :-). Your choice comes down to convertible or hardtop. IMHO the Cayman looks much better but I like going topless too much to consider one.

Any MAJOR differences between the cars ownership? Driving? Autocross/track abillities? Driveability in the cold/wet? I live in the NE soon to relocate to Texas via the military. Would a convertible be too much/hot? Never had one...so don't know what to expect.
Thanks for the info so far!

The AC in the Boxster is excellent, with the top up.
The Cayman, with the rigid top, has more body stiffness, and is very easy to drive hard and instills a lot of immediate confidence, in hard cornering.
With good tires and the PSM, the cars are very sure footed in the rain.

Hopefully you would never consider taking your new p-car through a car wash, but if that is something you would consider (eg. if you drive in winter and want to wash that salt off ...) - then Cayman may be better choice.
If you plan to do any tracking / DE's - both are great - the Cayman is a little faster.
If you are tall, you should try both - a vertically challenged person I know fits in the Cayman well but finds the Boxster soft-top too low.
I love my '06 Boxster-S - I've drooled over some new Caymans at the track - but all is forgiven when I get to drop the top for a wonderful drive back home ...

Just got back and dealer has two nice 08 cars:
1) 08 Boxster S Sport Design in white with white carrerra sport wheels.
2) 08 Boxster RS 60 Sypder in Silver GT with black interior.
Both have PCM 2.1 and nav and PSE and I think PCM.
He's offered $63k so far but I think he can do better...I've found examples of BOTH cars for $58k elsewhere.
Also has a 08 Cayman S Sport for the same in orange and black and another one in black with a red interior (not really feeling that color combo that much) both for around similar prices $60's low.
Anythoughts?
