My First RMS....now I'm a Porsche owner!
Well, it's official, I've got an RMS failure on my 99 986.
The car is using no oil and not spotting on the garage floor (maybe an occasional drop). This is my 4th p-car and my first RMS....I guess everyone's cherry gets popped at some point.
The engine only has 12K miles and runs like a top.
Sigh.

If you don't have any more leakage that that... I would let it be for a while. Just make sure to keep a good eye on the oil level. A tiny bit of seepage is not going to make it explode.
But I feel your pain... our S finally got a little seepage too, but it took until 62K miles. Shop advised me to go have some fun and kill the clutch... then come back and have it fixed. Doing my best to oblige!

I think you guys are right,...I should just wait and see.
The car belonged to my mother until about 6 months ago and was not driven a whole heck of a lot! I've put 2000 miles on it since I got it including a few days at the track. It is going to see mucho track duty this summer so we'll see what happens with the RMS.

Sorry to hear, not something great to celebrate...
1999, low mileage, RMS... I hope that car was not one with the porous engine cases...There was a period of time where the cylinder liners would come loose causing all sorts of havoc...
Just budget the cost of a new engine for when this one goes kaput and forget about it... who knows, you might not even have any issues after changing the RMS.

Chances are the lack of driving is what caused the issues anyway.
If you are going to track it, just be sure to religiously watch the oil level, and monitor for leakage. You don't want to end your day or someone else's due to excessive undetected spillage on the track. If you've ever experienced driving through oil at speed, you know that you are essentially just a passenger at that point.
Just roll with it as is, and keep a solid eye on it. But definitely drive it the way it was intended to be driven.

I really don't think it's leaking much although Autobahn thought it was bad. There's just no oil consumption or puddles of oil under the car. I certainly don't want it to become a track hazard to others so I'll have to watch it carefully.
