Picked up the car this morning. It was indeed the bearing. My total out of pocket was $149 because I bought an extended warranty that covered it.

Total bill was over $950. Parts were about $100 the rest was labor and a $229 alignement.

Got the car back freshly washed and they filled the tank!

Thanks again for all the info and tips.

You ain't lying. Car needs the RMS replaced, as it is starting to weep oil.

Default RMS time!!

If it just started, the question to ask yourself is when are you due for a clutch replacement? That would be the best time to put in the new updated RMS.

Personally I am going to replace my Flywheel (with a light weight one), performance clutch and pressure plate, RMS AND the IMS update from LN Engineering. I know that part is $600, but worth the piece of mind!!!

I have a LWF in my 986. Great mod IMHO.

Hi Rob,

I know the RMS is not the end of the world, but the extended warranty ends in January. If I get the RMS done under warranty, it covers the labor for updating the clutch and flywheel (all I have to do is buy the parts).

Ray - what's the deal with the light weight flywheel? What brand? How much better is throttle response? Any issues with stalling? Did you upgrade the clutch as well?

I have the Aasco LWFW on my 2000 986 (with the stock clutch). I have not had a single stalling problem with the car (stock ECU map) and there is only a super slight rattle at idle (you really have to really strain to hear it). In fact I never even noticed the sound until a friend was checking my rear tires for wear at a DE and heard the slight noise as he was examining my tires.

Throttle response is greatly improved. The biggest adjustment I had to make was to get used to the quicker drop in revs when heel and toe downshifting.

All in all it's been a great mod IMHO.

I just checked the cost on the Aasco LWFW. It is about half the cost of the factory dual mass FW. Now you have me thinking.
