would you choose a 968 or s2000 for 12-14k??

the exterior of the car was real nice. it had a small defect in the rear bumper, but paint and sheetmetal were fine. The right side rims were scuffed up pretty good. It had new front tires.
It was a 2002 with 75k, and the stealership was selling for 13,400. I offered 12k with t/t contingent on a ppi. They countered with 12,400 plus i pay t/t.
I left with their quote and was fine with it.
It will need a battery, it was dead. whomever owned it, really used it a lot. The interior was in decent shape but seemed a little more worn for the age, but not in terrible shape.
Brakes were also at 50%

Do you mean pads? Those are easily replaced. Check to see if the service book has stamps OR call a local Porsche dealer and find out where the car was delivered / serviced (They can tell you that...even if they say they cannot). Call that dealer and ask them to send you the service history. I have found that if you can find the dealers that did a majority of the service, you can get a pretty decent picture of how much care the PO took in owning the car.
BTW, I OWN a 968 and find it to be a great car. If I just wanted a car that was in perfect condition and just drive it / enter in concourse / drive in country, I would stay with the 968 (especially my 968 as it is in fantastic condition). But I want to track the car and feel that a 2000 - 2002 Boxster S is better suited to dual purpose.
And final BTW, my 968 is for sale. Check the rennlist classified for more details.

the carfax showed 3 diff owners. The car made it's way up and down the entire east coast. The scuffs on the right side rims and the wear marks on all the buttons made it seem too used, if you could really say that.
The body was perfect, but i guess for a car at that price being 10 years old, i think i was expecting a little better condition on the interior. It's possibly me just being too picky. I think may/june ill be better for me since my car will be paid off then.

Don't worry too much about 1 car being sold; it's still a buyers market. As to the OP's question it's something I've wrestled with a lot, having come up with 200k-300k mile Honda Civics I can't say enough for Honda's engineering. I really prefer the mid engine ride and the feel of the 986 over the S2K. Good luck on your decision both can be loads of fun.

i can't find **** locally now. each s2000 is selling quickly and more than kbb. I really can't find a good boxster or one the dealer can find that they just had.....
frustrating day.........
local p stealership has an 01 base with 42k for $20,000 it really does not look like it commands that much

You probably won't find much locally, there just aren't that many Porsches like there are Corollas and Civics, so pickings in any area are going to be pretty small. Expect to have to drive a few hours to find the specific Boxster you want.

Sorry to hear that you missed out on that car. We're buying a car from Chicago, and were able to negotiate shipping costs. It's still a buyers market in places, maybe expanding your search may help. Of course you wont get to drive to car so you take your chances there. Have you tried checking "The Mart" on the PCA site? You may have to sign up for a membership, but usually they have some pristine cars for sale. Good luck and happy hunting!
