Default 996 Engine sound in Boxster

I'm curious. On the Boxsters with 996 engines in them, do they sound like 996s or Boxsters? I guess the real question is what makes the distinctive difference between the 996 and Boxster? Is it the heads of the engines? The headers? Or the piping? And does the difference survive the transplant?

It's both the intake and the exhaust. The heads are identical except for the size. Mine has aftermarket headers and cat bypass pipes with a stock muffler and sounds great but not like a 986 or 996.
