Default Boxter runs bad cold

1998 Boxter cranks and idles fine when cold. When you try to drive, the car acts like it won't take fuel spits sputters and backfires through induction system. The car has sat for about six mounts but was doing this before. I have checked the fuel pressure and cleaned the fuel injectors. I have also replaced the air temp. sensor, but nothing has helped. If you have any info. or suggestions please help. Thanks dragracer1316

Have you checked the fuel pressure under load? Also what about the fuel filter. Could be clogged or partially collapsed. Outside of that possibly sticking valves or more complex ignition related ECU problems. Curious to know when you find it.

the only sensor in the intake tract is the maf sensor and yes it can casue that. Did you replace the maf sensor, did you replace it with an identical one?

Default diagnosis needed

you need to diagnose it before throwing parts at it.
find what codes are in the ECM and troubleshoot from there.

its possible the MAF is bad but also possible other things are bad. why throw good money after bad.

Imagine going to a Dr with a tummy ache and without any diagnostic tests you are told you have stomach cancer.

un plug the maf and see if its any better. the car will go into a default mode and will run fine. I would do that before buying a 500 maf sensor.
