Hello Everybody.
I am about to buy a 2002 Porsche Boxter with 76k miles on it.
It has been in an accident (front impact) and front airbags deployed. It has no frame damage, it drives straight and all the panels look and fit well, besides the front bumper. Seems like the impact was just strong enough to pop the airbags. The title is clean and the price is a steal.
My question is what are the procedures to replace the airbag?
I already used the Search and have a good general idea about the driver’s side (3 spoke steering wheel), but the passenger side seems to be harder. The car has no glove box. What do I have to remove in order to get to it (Cover also needs to be replaced).
I do not have a workshop manual yet, but would appreciate if somebody would post a link to a good write up or downloadable WSM. I got one for my 928 from workshopmanuals.co.uk but that website is now gone.
Any input is greatly appreciated.

You will need to be extremely careful in handling airbags - they do not need any power to go off. If you do not feel comfortable doing this - then leave it to a professional.

most cars will have an extra connector for the air bag independant of the battery . Even static could send off an air bag. never get in front of an air bag while working on it and obce removed . ALWAYS put down or store an air bag with the bag pointing up.

al83s,
Air bags are not that explosive..I just took a couple out and as long as you disconnect the battery and wait a min or two you are ok. I think they changed the air bags from 97 to 02 but if not I have both drivers and passengers that you are welcome to if needed. There will be a little yellow clip on the back of the air bag, just gently pry it out with a small screw driver and snap in the new bag. Since the old one has already gone off then nothing to worry about.
