Thanks for the responses...

I test drove it again Sunday afternoon (with my wife) and love the car. It does have keyless entry. I talked to the Porsche Shop (no dealers within 100 miles!) that maintains the car and they said it has only needed routine maintenence. They strongly suggested getting a PPI.

I really wish it had PSM, the Litronics would be nice too. I'm going to offer her $26k (firm) contingent on a good PPI.

Wish me luck...

Even though I have not driven a car with PSM, I kinda wish mine had it too.

That said, often times on other manufacturers cars, I find their stability management software kills the momentum when I am really cooking, kinda like letting the air out of a balloon. I have heard Porsche's is far superior, but a 2002 will be in GEN 1 of PSM, no?

As well, a lot of trackies are anti-PSM too. I suppose for the same reason. Still... having it would allow e to switch it off instead of not having the choice.

Haven't swapped ends yet....

As for Litronics... everyone on this board seems to think they are essential. How much of that is bragging rights, I don't know. Withoutthem, and with the fog lights on, a blacked out coutry road is very illuminated with the stock lights.

I think the lack of orange reflectors is the driving force on the switch to HID.

Hell... all I can say is that I enjoy the heck outta my car.

Default I made her an offer...

I offered her $26,500 contingent on an acceptable PPI. She countered that she has someone coming to look at it this weekend and the lowest she will go now is $28,000.

I'm willing to sit for now... We are heading to L.A. next weekend and I can check out more Boxsters down there.

I think you are smart to hold off. I think $28K is a lot of $$

I think 26,500 is still too high. That woman made a mistake in turning you down.
26K is garage queen territory and this sounds like it was driven more often than just Sundays.

p.s.
if you plan to sell the car at some point you will want to have the Litronics. The halogens are an eye sore nowadays and kinda low tech to be on a modern Porsche. They should have made these standard equipment sooner.

Mike Bat-that is terrible, meybe she thought the bump was a guy? Hehe, lol.
Kidding aside, agree with Drew K - but 2002 S seems to be the year when prices are in the 22k -24k range and then 2003 S jumps due to improvements made and not so many around ?
I dunno, mine was 27K with 36Km -figure 6K driven a year not bad. I was very worried about these ones you see that are 'cheaper' for good reason, ie water damage (floods) and electrical problems skimmed over with successive buyers. Take your time if you can-lots out there.

Six months ago I sold back to my local dealer 03 boxster with 8k miles on it. They sold it for 30K. So a car with 40K miles on it for almost $30K ..............no way!

Default I GOT MY BOXSTER S !!!

Found this perfect Seal Grey S on Autotrader. 2003 with 25k miles, 6 spd, Litronics, Bose, grey leather interior, no PSM ;-( , fresh BFG G-Force tires, CPO until Aug. 2008, new battery, recent oil change. $27.5k

This one feels stronger than the 2002, I believe because of the Vario-VVT instead of the step VVT, than the 2002 I drove. I'll drive it home next weekend when my check clears. :-)

Default 20 vs 03 Boxsters

Consumer Reports, think what you will about C/U, but their reliability charts are made up from the survey that they send out for comments.
They like the 02 and not so much the 04 but the 03 comes out worst of the three....what's up with that
PLEASE NO FLAMES, I'm looking at the April auto issue and thems' the facts.
Anyone got an 02 in Green/Tan 5 speed for sale?

Default Drove it home!

Finally got it home!! I love it. The only thing I have found missing... no cruise control! I didn't notice the lack of it when test driving, but would be nice on trips. This thing is hard to maintain a constant speed on the freeway.

Took it out Monday afternoon on my favorite loop (Hwy 229-41-101). I was cutting and thrusting and, at times, bouncing off the rev. limiter in 2nd gear! It handles so nice, more neutral that my Miata. My first mod. will be a short shifter. Compared to the Miata, it have very long throws between gears.

I'm love'n it!!
