Default Boxster vs water-cooled 911: maintenance differences?

Just wondering what the major maintenance differences are between the Boxster and the water-cooled 911? In other words, between mid-and rear-engine configurations?
For example, December Panorama noted in a Q&A section of up to $5K to replace the 996 clutch, due to the need for an engine drop. Is there such a need in the Boxster? Any other key maintenance differences? My impression is the rear engine has the more labor intensive maintenance.

Don't need to drop the engine to replace the clutch on a 996/986.

Well that's a nice improvement! In my '80 911SC, they had to drop the engine for a new clutch. I'm sure that saves a few bucks!

over the course of 2.5 years i dropped over $18k on maintenance on my 993...the boxster is like a breath of fresh air; so far (knock on wood) it has been honda-reliable.

Default Boy lot's of 550 SEs...

My cost are about equal with my G35...which is to say very little.

Tires are a big exception though, as the G35 goes 40K and the Boxster, well it doesn't....but then 911s don't either.

Here is my #373 Anniversary edition.

18k ! Geez! Was it a flaming Turd when you bought it?
I've had mine 1.5 yrs and its cost me uh lets see how much does 5 qts of oil , 2 oil filters, and an air filter cost?
* This does not include things I did that the car didnt need such as painting the rear grill .
I' am also about to change cv boots and put new tires on which will be a few $$$ but NOT in the 18k ballpark.

no typo: $18k
1 valve job
1 clutch
1 steering rack
2 control arms
4 brakes (all 4 corners)
1 alternator
8 tires (all corners 2x)
1 windshield
the list goes on and on and on...i might buy another 911, but i doubt i'd buy another 993 (as beautiful as they are)

I am guessing you are not doing the labor?

i don't do any of my own labor...even if i did, the valve job is a serious undertaking.

We can assume this is not DIY. The question is what other maintenance items besides the clutch require an engine drop in the water-cooled 911 vs the Boxster?
