Default Will a Universal OBD2 reader work on an 01 S?

I tried to plug my Actron P9135 into the Boxster when I was looking at it and it would not fit. do I need a Porsche Specific code reader for the Check engine stuff?

to spec and it can take a bit of force to insert the plug connector of an OBD2 tool.

Some of these tools and their connector have a very open connector the latch/catch is non-existent or modified to rely mostly upon connector pin friction to keep the connector plugged in.

Others have the specified latch/catch form and these are really hard to insert into the Porsche OBD2 connector.

Be sure though you are installing the connector the right way and the area around the connector doesn't have something in the way and the tool connector is not broken or has a bent pin, etc.

BTW, my '02 Boxster takes an Actron 9145 or something similar that I bought way back in '97 or so for another car. But this Actron tool's connector has an open slot where the latch/catch would be.

Sincerely,

Macster.
