Post 2000 / 2001 Boxster Question.

Hey all, I just started to seriously consider purchasing a 2000 or 2001 Boxster. I have been on the 996 board for a while now since my dad got a new C4S but I don't know much about the Boxster so I could use some help. I have been doing some preliminary research and found the order guide for the 2001 but not the 2000 so I have a few questions on what came standard. I was wondering if the following items were standard equipment in 2000 and/or 2001:

Keyless Entry
3 Spoke Steering Wheel

Also I know the upgraded engine was put in place in 2000 but when were the upgraded materials used in the interior? I read somewhere that the 2001 received a roof liner, does that mean that the 2000 roof is kinda crappy?

I hope I can find one in the next few months for between $30,000 and $35,000. Am I just wishing or is that around what they are going for now? The dealer I went to quoted around $40,000 for a 2001, yet online I have seen 2001s as low as $33,000, the price difference makes me think either the dealer is gouging in this market or that the ones online around $35,000 (for a 2001) are really in bad shape. Any advice when it comes to looking for a good used Boxster would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

2000 S's have roof liners and 3 spoke steering wheels. Prices depend on options and condition so prices will vary a LOT.

The keyless entry is part of the 'sport package'(code P09) or 'sport touring package' (code P10).

The 3 spoke wheels started as standard equiptment in 2001, optional in 2000....

I would not want a $33,000.00 2001 Boxster. Sounds fishy. Maybe these were on eBay and had not hit the reserve or asking price?

Good Luck, and get the best condition Boxster you can afford, because there really isnt enough difference between 2000 and 2001, especially after the first few payments are made....

Thanks for all of the information. I really appreciate it. The amazing thing is the dealer also told me the new totally redesigned boxster is coming out in the summer of 2003. I have a hard time believing that and why would he say that if I am looking at buying car in the next few months? Anyway I found that interesting. Thanks again for the info.
