Post Interesting post from the racing list

This was posted in the racing list and I thought if you had not seen it yet you may have an interest.

"Track report: street Boxster vs. track-prepared 911

I attended a DE at Lime Rock in Connecticut a few days ago. I decided to
run my street 2000 Boxster S which had never been on the track, rather
than my track-prepared (full suspension, Kumhos: 225/50-16 front 245/45-16
rear) 1984 911. I want to share my impressions of the experience with
fellow Rennlisters.

Overall impression: the Boxster, even in street setup, is fast! My
personal Lime Rock best in the 911 is 1:05; I was routinely doing 1:07 in
the Boxster --- and this is on the stock street Michelin Pilot SX
(205/50-17 front 255/45-17 rear) tires. Follow-up impression: after a
track day in the 911 (with no power steering) I have muscle aches
everywhere; I felt great with no aches at all after the Boxster day.

Driving impressions: the Boxster has incredible turn-in. You turn the
wheel and the car reacts instantly and very crisply, almost like the
race-prepared 911. Once you're in the turn the reduced grip of the tires
becomes evident and the car is much more tossable, but the mid-engine
layout makes control very easy to maintain. The Boxster S has 250hp,
versus the 200hp of the 911, and you certainly feel this difference
accelerating out of the turns and as you continue to accelerate
approaching the braking points. The combination of the power and lack of
ultimate grip also gave me my first experience of power oversteer (in Lime
Rock's left hander). The Boxster brakes, even with the stock street pads
and brake fluid, are wonderful. I never had a trace of fade, and the ABS
did pulse a few times to help me. The car is very neutral in balance and
behavior. Transitions are instantaneous, so the esses were a delight. My
speed at the trackout from the downhill was exactly 100mph, which is a
good figure.

The street Boxster S is almost as fast as the race-prepared 1984 911, less
nervous, and much easier to drive fast.

Not only is it fast and very competitive on track, but you can set the cruise control, A/C, and tunes you like..drive to the track, thrash is all day, then set the cruise on the way home. Truly wonderful.

I am seeing more and more upper run group(white, black, red) guys running Boxsters and Boxster S'. The 986 and 996 are track champs in my opinion.

Good Luck.

I know this was over 2 months ago... but..

914 owners have known "your" feeling's for years. Welcome to mid engine.

I tracked a Boxster for 7 hours during a open test session and could'nt beleive how much it handled like our race prepped 9146's.
