Yup, 4 months. Mostly on 996....only been looking at the Boxster for a week or so but assumed the engine problems that the 99-01s have with cylinder 2/5 cracking due to block stress were on the boxster as well. Most of the things I've found on the 996 say the Boxster engine suffered from the same issues...and from looking at the poll results that were done there does appear to be some correlation.

Looks like we're talking about two different problems...I'm not refering to the early early boxster issue.

BTW this thread is about 2002 vs 2003 Boxster S....no mention of Z4 at all that I can see.

Cheers, time for this thread to go to rest as the trolls seem to be out

Sounds like we're talking about the same problem.

And it looks like I'm not the only one that thinks so.

This is the second thread you've started where you've come in, asked a question of people with DECADES of Porsche experience, been given the appropriate and correct answer by people who actually know what they're talking about, and don't seem to want to accept it.

To make it worse, your first one was to ask a collection of PORSCHE owners if they thought that a BMW was a better car?

Please... just go be a BMW guy. Porsche doesn't need you.

Oh yeah- and have a great day!

I believe that the M490 was the mid level system, then there was the BOSE option. None of them are very good in stock form. Pretty much anything made has a better sound system. :-)

On the other hand BrockPorsche, you really don't by a Porsche for the stereo system.........

I don't regret getting my '00 over the 2003+ cars. At the time, the price differential between a really nice '00 S and an equally nice '03 S was about $8,000. Didn't make sense then so no regrets.

I actually like the earlier interiors better - the revised center stack of the '03+ cars doesn't appeal to me, but that's a minor nit. I do want a glass rear window, but that's a $800 upgrade on my '00 - not an $8,000 upgrade.

All the cars are great, I say just get the best one you can and don't worry about the year!

Different things matter to different people. Stereo is 4th on my list of priorities and the MOST bus system makes individual replacement hard...so I need to factor it in since it adds $2000-$3000 to the price of the car if I have to replace a MOST system with something decent.

Cheers

Default no, no, no. That was a subset of early 2.5l cars

I think you have 02+ in your head because the 02 996 got the facelift and it has the 3.6L engine. A 996 will command more money if it is an 02+ than if it is a 99-01. Some early 996 owners upgraded lights, fenders, etc to the 02+ look. (I like it better too)

Nah, it's the 3.4L for 996 in general that has "perceived" issues...starting at 99 and decreasing in frequency until the 3.6L upgrade/facelift in 2002. From the various magazine writeups as well as talks in various forums I had assumed those cylinder 2/5 torque problems affected the boxster engine as well. If that's not true then that was a bad assumption on my part and I'm glad to hear as it opens the possibility of a 2002 then.

SDDave: Must you continue the childishness? Gotta say, sure turns one off trying to get help from the forum.
