New Boxster Convert (from 911 Carrera!)
Well, I did it!
Ralphie may have called them "...with panties" (so another thread claims) but having taken a critical review of the pros and cons - and sought much advice - I bought a 2001 Boxster/S this afternoon (and traded in my 1984 911 with only 60,000 miles on it). I think they are BOTH fantastic cars but chose the S because:
- I am tending to go less fast and more twisty these days and boy can it go twisty. The 911 was better than everything else I tried - but the Boxster has it even more so.
- The creature comforts are a Good Thing. I was starting to avoid driving my 911 on very hot or less than perfect days and having a garage queen was not my plan - so I expect that with a power top (versus my manual Targa roof which was a huge pain, quite frankly) I will be quicker to choose the S (I have 3 other cars too.)Oh yeah, and the air conditioning is quite decent.
- Contrary to other comments I have read, I find the quality, fit and finish to be quite excellent on the S. My hand built 911 was absolutely superb quality in this regard, and I am expecting nothing less from the S.
- 2 1/2 more years of Porsche warranty should wring any little bugs out of it, too.
So, perhaps a change is as good as a rest. But since the debates on this subject seem to be about which is better, I say...if it's a Porsche, that is all that needs to be said.
Watch for my flash, folks!

Congrats on the S. I had an 87 Targa a while back and the car was fun but no comparison to the fun/perma grin factor of the S. Let's see some pics. <img src="graemlins/beerchug.gif" border="0" alt="[cheers]" /> and Enjoy!
