Question Automatic lowering of windows in '98 Boxster

Just purchased a '98 Boxster this week for my wife. As a die-hard, air-cooled Porsche fan I have to admit there's not much fault I can find with the Boxster (haven't driven a 996 yet). It's a great compliment to the 993 and my wife enjoys it tremendously.

The only problem I have with it is the passenger door's window. With both the top and window up, the window is supposed to drop a few mm's to prevent the glass from getting caught on the outside of the top when opening/closing the door. I can hear the motor trying to move the glass without success. Except for this problem the window operates normally. No issues with the driver's door.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is it something I can fix myself or does my shop have to repair it? Is it an expensive repair?

Thanks! <img border="0" alt="[byebye]" title="" src="graemlins/wave.gif" />

I can't see this link...can the info be posted here? I've run into this problem once on my car, but it cured itself right away. I'd like to know what causes it in case I run into it again.

Thanks.

Don't know why the link is not working as it works for me. <a href="http://forum.boxa.net/index.php?showtopic=1473" target="_blank">Second try</a>

The interior and exterior door handles have a micro switch to tell the window motor to drop. The switch can stop working or only work some times. Or, there are plastic parts on the window regulator for the window drop and if one breaks then it does not drop.

Have to remove the door panel and inspect to see if it is one of there common problems or something else. Jeff

Thanks Jeff, that's all I was looking for. (still nothing on the link...OE on my end?)

I had this happen to me once on a rainy morning on my way to work. Must have been the switch not working that time. Works fine now. But if it happens again I'll know where to look.

Thanks again.

Jeff - Thanks. Had to leave town for a few days so I apologize for the delay in responding. I'll try to get the door panel off and see what's going on.

If you can hear the motor running with the handle pulled out, it is most likely the window regulator.
They tend to break by this spring and flex instead of dropping the window down 1/4"...
Not too hard of a job, just make sure you mark the window w/ tape or something to help you adjust it with the new regulator...
