I think (hoping) Porsche is getting the message. Boxsters are great cars but they're getting left behind and resale values are slipping.
They need to up the HP in the boxster and I don't give a jot about what the 996 has. I want more grunt in a small, neat package and I'm not going to pay $60k for it. Since the end of the 'old' porsches, the newer cars don't have that special feeling that put them thousands of dollars ahead of the competition. They're nice, but not the same as the older ones. So, to maintain their price porsche has to either clobber the competition with performance or, come back to the pack on price.
Some will continue to buy for the name, but, I have the feeling that others will look at the performance/value equation and buy elsewhere.
I hope porsche reads this.

According to the March 2002 issue of Automobile Magazine, the 2003 Boxster S will have wider fenders, new head- and taillights, more sculpted bumpers with larger air intakes, restyled lights, bigger wheels, and a higher quality interior. Mechanically, expect more displacement and more power. The Boxster S 2003 will be equipped with a mildly modified and samller 911 unit. The 3.4-liter flat six will have about 280 HP. Apparently, the much rumored Boxster Turbo is very much a myth.

Isn't the boxster due for a total redesign soon. I mean, how often does Porsche go longer then 6 years without one? Is the 2004 model the proposed year for a redesign?

I also predict that 3.4 liter motored 996's will be around $30k within two years. Whoops wrong board - or maybe not. Why buy a 2003 Boxster S when you could get a used 996 for 30% less.
