CDR-21 - CDR-22, Help?
I'll start by saying I,m new to Porsche!!
My boxster has a CDR-21, but four of the buttons have gone from black to white and they dont look the best so I want to change the unit, can anyone tell me..,
Whats the difference between a CDR-21 & CDR-22?
Is there anything else available from Porsche? I would like to keep the dash looking standard so I do not want to install any other unit (Alpine etc)
Any info, manufactures, part numbers, etc will be greatfully recieved - Cheers

I have a Becker CDR-220 in my Boxster S.
You might check with your dealer about a factory refurbished unit - you can save mucho $$$ that way. I got one and installed in my 944, and it turned out great.
Also keep an eye on eBay.
Finally, Stefan at SW Stereo is a Becker / Blaupunkt expert. He really helped me with my 944 Becker install, and I would recommend doing business with him.

I'm also new to Porsche, so this may seem like a silly question, but does your radio have the removable face plate? If so, you can pick one up from the dealer. Dealer cost is $300...not sure what their mark up is though.

In the US we have 210 and 220 made by Becker, same as the UK 21 and 22 except for the radio frequency. The 21/210 was used from 1997-1998 and 22/220 from 1999-2002. If you had a warranty left Porsche would cover it. You might try the UK Boxster board. There is a section for stereo questions. UK board You might even find a used 22 for sale as some have upgraded the radio with an after market unit. In the US we would just order a new face plate from Becker or Porsche.
On the Becker site under under 'what is new' you can look at the manuals for the 210 and 220 units and see the features of both units. Becker you can replace the older unit with the newer but you have to removed the metal mounting bracket that holds the older unit in place, and the newer unit will slide in place without a bracket. the 220 has a **** for volume (which i prefer), the 210 has a push button. one other advantage of the 220 (and probably the 22) is that it has an aux. input so you can hook up an ipod, or mp3 player etc. . i'm still keeping my eyes open for a used cdr220. later, max
