Post Dead spot in power curve

I recently bought a '98 Boxster 2.5 with 5 speed manual. Under full accelleration, there seems to be a dead spot in the power curve at around 4200 RPMs, then picks up stronger after a brief lag. Is this typical of a Boxster, or is something wrong? Any ideas?

Had the exact same thing on my 1997. Hesitation at 4,000 rpms, and then it would go to redline. It was the air flow sensor. Try the sensor from another 2.5 (2.7 and 3.2 have a different sensor) and see if that is the problem. The sensor on a 2.5 is expensive. Jeff
